Amélie Côté from the Beresford Carrefour-Étudiant is the winner of the Ron Gauthier Conservation Award for 2008. She was chosen as the recipient because of her leadership roll on environmental issues at her school and in her community. As a great conservationist, the late Ron Gauthier would have been proud of Amélie's interest and dedication to environmental issues. Shown from left with Amélie are Denis Guitard, wildlife technician with the Department of Natural Resources;, Mary Gauthier, wife of the late Mr. Gauthier; and Robert Chiasson, vice-president of the Nepisiguit Salmon Association.

I'm very happy to hear about the existence of this award. Ronnie Gauthier was a very nice man. I fondly remember the pancake breakfasts he would host in the woods.

(I also remember the skinning and cleaning of muskrats in his backyard. P.U.!!!)
