One of those things is the commitment to quality and customer satisfaction at Kerr’s Chain Saw Ltd. located at 1111 Miramichi Avenue in Bathurst. Founded in 1963 by Raleigh Kerr, the family business continues to embody the values so often a part of a solid family businesses.
They know their clients and they know and understand the area and as a result they are able to provide the products and services that local people need. “Kerr’s Chain Saw Ltd. strives to learn what our customers’ needs are, then we find the best products for them or recommend the best solution to address their needs,” says Bradley Kerr, president and co-owner of the business. He along with his mother, Margaret Kerr, both hold 50 percent shares in the business.
“Our approach to this business is extremely different from what you get when you just go and buy off the shelf. In order to address our clients’ needs, the owners and staff at Kerr’s strive to learn as much as we can about the products we sell,” he says. To do this, they study all written materials on the products and they frequently attend product seminars. But it doesn’t stop there. “We also work as a team and learn from each other because we have different fields of experience and expertise surrounding the products that we sell.”
The staff of eight includes highly-trained technicians who, during the course of a year, attend training sessions and take courses in able to offer expert service and keep up with the latest technology. This, combined with a fully-equipped service department, allows them to deliver the best service possible. “Our customers’ needs after purchasing a product are very important to us so we offer quality parts and service for the products we sell.”
They have developed and maintain strong relationships with the suppliers of quality products ***, only companies that stand behind their product will be accepted by *Kerr’s Chain Saw Ltd.. “Solid companies who stand behind their products better enable us to support our customers,” says Mr. Kerr.
The showroom is ten times larger than the original 12X15 showroom, 1800 square feet of it to be exact. But today, there are more than just saws to show.
True, you can still get a Stihl chain saw but they now also carry Cub Cadet, White Lawn and Garden Equipment, and Troy-Bilt. If you need outerwear for snowmobiling, Choko is the industry leader and Kerr’s has it. They also have quality parts – parts for motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, along with parts for the products they sell.
Since its inception in the early 1960s, the business has adapted with the times and changing demands of the area. That continuous diversification is one of the cornerstones of their success right alongside quality products and top-of-the-line service. “Staying on top of changing trends is part of the game. For example, today lawn and garden is a big part of the business,” says Mr. Kerr. “In 1996, we started to sell White lawn and garden equipment, then we added Cub Cadet and Troy-Bilt, so we are right on top of the local needs and demands.”
