A popular summer stop for tourists and local residents alike has been revived for another season thanks to a local businessman.

Hadley Glidden, owner of Ryan's Pub in Bathurst, has taken over operation of the Bathurst Marina which features a bar and restaurant among other attractions. He said he took the reigns because no one had yet stepped up to operate the marina this summer.

"Nobody was taking it so...I made a deal," he said.

The marina has been in operation since 1985. Last year, the popular tourist spot was operated by the Sole Sisters and the year previous, by chef Brian Gregan. No one was lined up to run the marina this year until Mr. Glidden brought forth his intentions.

"I think it's very important for tourism as well as the fact the people down in the Youghall Beach area for themselves on vacation and tourists in the summer time," he told The Northern Light "People like to go down the Youghall area so it was important to keep it up and running."

The Bathurst Marina officially opened the summer season last Saturday with a live band night. Mr. Glidden said he will carry on marina traditions such as Trivia Night, Band Night and Sunday brunch.

"Wednesday's is going to be Trivia Night and bands every Saturday night. We have Sunday brunch, we have the bar, food and drinks."

Mr. Glidden said he likely won't implement any major changes to the marina this summer.

"We're not making a lot of changes this year because being the first year but we will have a significant amount of changes next year."

The hours of operation at Ryan's Pub were reduced a few weeks back. Mr. Glidden feels his new marina business endeavor will complement to his pub business.

"We don't have the facilities here to do outside catering, "he said of Ryan's Pub. "We can now accommodate people to do outside catering (at the marina) as well as I feel there's potential down there.

Mr. Glidden said the marina bar will be open seven days a week with various hours of operation and the restaurant will be open Wednesday through Sunday. He said the marina will remain open into the fall, depending on weather.
