Legion report: Next Memorial Wall ceremony is on Oct. 5

The Memorial Wall ceremony, held April 6, was well attended with 26 plaques placed on the wall.
The next ceremony is Oct. 5 and anyone wishing to purchase a plaque can do so by calling the office of the Herman J. Good V.C. Branch No. 18 Royal Canadian Legion or contacting Howard Ross.
Phil Best, acting service officer for the Bathurst branch, reported at last month's meeting that there was one referral to the district for VIP benefits, one pension application to district and three cases of assisting veterans with completing forms. Also, he had one pension application approval and one VIP benefits approved.
Jean Arseneau said the local sea cadet Tag Day was held April 18 and 19 with the legion used as headquarters. The fundraising effort was described as successful.
She also said the annual cadet review will be held June 9 at the Col. CCL Gammon Armoury.
It was decided legion bartenders will wear red "support our troops" shirts on Fridays and Terry Spence reported that a $5,000 donation was received from the Ladies Auxiliary.
Speaking of our auxiliary, they recently hosted the Ladies Auxiliary Provincial Bowling Tournament at Bowlarama @2020 with six teams competing: two from Bathurst and the others from Moncton, Fredericton, Saint John and Oromocto. (Oromocto won.)
Along with a turkey dinner and trophy presentation, there was also a silent auction, but yours truly has a difficult time imagining a silent auction. (Just kidding!)
Haines Scott is in charge of publicity for the Herman J. Good V.C. Branch No. 18 Royal Canadian Legion in Bathurst and his report appears monthly.
