TODAY
--The New Brunswick Society of Retired Teachers, Bathurst branch, will meet at 2 p.m. in the Florence Roussy Seniors Room at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre for a business meeting. Guest speakers will be Audrey Gammon and Brenda Firlotte from the Community Schools program. Roger Nesbitt, provincial president of the NBSRT, will also be in attendance.
---The New Brunswick Multicultural Council is organizing an information session and is inviting all internationally trained and educated professionals in the Bathurst area. The session will address barriers and opportunities that internationally educated and trained professionals have when entering the New Brunswick labour market.This will take placeat the Youghall Drive campus of the New Brunswick Community College, Room 234 B, from 7 p.m. to 8.30 pm. The session is organized in partnership with the Multicultural Association of Chaleur region. Light refreshments will be served. WEDNESDAY
--The Bathurst Christian Women's Club will hold a Harvest Auction Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. till 1 p.m. at Danny's Inn and Conference Centre in Beresford. There'll be crafts, baked goods and various gift ideas to bid on. Guest speaker is Cecil Symes from Rexton whose talk is entitled "The Valley of Shadows." The cost is $13 and resrvations and cancellations for the luncheon are necessary. Call Wanetta at 548-5083 or Edith, 548-3924.
--There'll be a visit and presentation at the Climate Change Action Centre, 237 Main St., by renowned environmental lawyer Michel DesNeiges, supervising attorney of the New Brunswick Environmental Law Society. His topic will be environmental investigations and there are two sessions, one in English at 6 p.m. and one in French at 7 p.m.
SATURDAY
--Attention to anyone named Doucet, Doucette or Doucett, and any owners/operators of bed and breakfasts, motels, hotels and cottages, or anyone involved in the tourism industry in general: a meeting will be held at 2 p.m. at the Bathurst NBCC to orgainze a Doucet family reunion, to be held Aug. 21 and 22, 2009 in Bathurst during the World Acadian Congress. --Volunteers from the Bathurst Animal Shelter/Gloucester SPCA will be on hand at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre prior to the 7 p.m.. Acadie-Bathurst Titan hockey game. This will be a cash collection with all proceeds going to help with the operation of the shelter and the care of the animals.
SUNDAY
--Holy Family Parish is having its 15th annual spaghetti supper in the church hall beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets are $7 each and takeouts will be available. The Christmas fun auction will immediately follow the meal. Tickets can be purchased at the rectory from Tuesday till Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by calling 783-2345.
UPCOMING
--The Hospital Auxiliary's third annual Christmas Home Tour presents the interior of five beautifully decorated homes for viewing on Nov. 27, 28 and 29 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and avaiable at A Few Splinters, the Hospital Boutique, the Bay Breeze Art Gallery or by calling Jeanne Morrison at 546-3275 or Cheryl LeBlanc, 546-4780.
--A Feast of Saint Andrew roast beef dinner will be held Nov. 29 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Douglas Avenue. A meet and greet is set for 5:30 p.m. followed by the dinner at 6 p.m. There'll be entertainment, the Highland Dancers and a guest speaker. Tickets are $18 for members and $20 for guests. --The annual Bathurst VON Christmas Concert will be held Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Gwendolyn Kent Auditorium at Bathurst High School. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.
--There will be a book sale organized by the Smurfit-Stone Public Library board at the library (part of the Bathurst Canada Games Pavilion on St. George Street) on Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
--Chaleur Palliative Community Services will hold a Christmas Bazaar/Craft and Bake Sale on Dec. 6 and participants are needed. If you can bake, sew, knit or create any type of artwork or craft, you can help by providing an item for the sale. Or, get together with your friends, family members or colleagues and fill a whole table. For more info, call Susan at 547-3660. Chaleur Palliative Community Services is a community charity providing support services free of charge to people and families facing the last six to 12 months of life.
OTHER HAPPENINGS
--The School District 15 Transition Centre, located on Main Street, has turned over the funds raised by its recent noon-hour charity barbecue. The event resulted in a $200 cheque being presented to the Bathurst Animal Shelter/Gloucester SPCA.
--Throughout November, photos of our men and women in the armed forces who are serving overseas will be on exhibit at Gallery 360, located in the Nepisiguit Cultural Centre (360 Douglas Ave.). During this time, all donations left in the donation box at the door will be equally divided between the hostel in Germany for families of injured service personnel and the Palliative Care Unit at Chaleur Regional Hospital.
--St. John Ambulance is taking registrations for Workplace First Aid Practice Sessions. These will be on Dec. 10 CPR Level C (adult, infant and child) will be given Nov. 29 and Dec. 4 and 13. Workplace Standard/Emergency First Aid with Level C CPR will be given Nov. 29 and 30, Dec. 4 and 5 and Dec. 13 and 14. Courses run from 8:30 a.m. til 5 p.m. To register, call 1-800-563-9998.
--The Canadian Red Cross is seeking volunteers to work in the Bathurst office at 216 Main St. For more info, please call 548-2824.
--The SPCA Bookstore, at 695 St. Peter Ave., is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Book donations, hard and soft cover, are welcome. All proceeds go to the Bathurst Animal Shelter/Gloucester SPCA.
-The Bathurst Volunteer Centre is always in need of food donations in order to serve the needy. Any restaurant, store or individuals who may be left with food items that will go unused, please think of donating to the centre. Call 549-5955.
