The union of municipalities said in a news release that the project is part of a partnership with the Association Acadienne des Artistes Professionel.le.s du Nouveau-Brunswick (AAAPNB), ArtsLinkNB, and the Association Francophone des Municipalités du Nouveau-Brunswick (AFMNB) and
UMNB, supported by the federal and provincial governments.

“Arts and culture hold an important place in the municipal space,” said Dan Murphy, executive
director of the union of municipalities. “We received significant interest from municipalities throughout
membership, and are pleased that the Town of Salisbury will be the pilot community for this important element of building community identity through the arts as we work through municipal reform.”

“The Town of Salisbury is thrilled to be selected for this program and looks forward to working with current partners, including UMNB, while making new partners to engage our residents and arts, culture, and heritage stakeholders as we undertake this project,” Salisbury Mayor Robert Campbell said in the news release. “As we celebrate ‘Salisbury 250’ in 2024, the Cultural Policy Pilot provides an opportune chance to try to build on this work to recognize and celebrate the heritage of the region and our new municipal boundaries.”

The town was enlarged during last year’s municipal reform to include neighbourhoods on both the south and north sides of the Petitcodiac River.
