In a news release, the town said it had three consecutive record-breaking years since 2020, and issued 227 permits totaling $105 million in 2023. The total value in 2022 was $69.5 million.

In the residential sector, more than 175 permits were granted for a value of $16,275,500. Over $40 million worth of multi-family residential permits were recorded in the past year, and on the commercial side, the municipality issued 29 building permits totaling $48,471,048, the town said.

“Our municipality is experiencing significant growth, and we must continue on this path while placing our priority on the aspects that make Shediac one of the best places to live, work and do business,” Mayor Roger Caissie said in the news release.

As a result of the amalgamation in 2023, the municipality’s population grew to over 11,000, and its territory expanded to include Scoudouc, Scoudouc Road, Shediac Cape and Pointe-du-Chêne. The Pointe-du-Chêne Wharf, Parlee Beach, cottage communities and campgrounds are important tourist destinations that bring thousands of visitors during the summer season.

“The provincial government is expected to announce the location of the new K-12 English school in Shediac in the near future,” Danny Pellerin, Shediac’s director of economic development and tourism, said in the news release. “In addition, construction continues in rapidly developing subdivisions such as Domaine Beauséjour and Domaine des Faisans.”

Pellerin said a 139,000 square foot refrigerated warehouse project is also planned for the Scoudouc Industrial Park.

“It is essential that the Town of Shediac maintains a good pace in its development, while ensuring a good balance of all aspects, such as the environment and the economy,” Mayor Caissie said.
