Jobs created by expansion of Bathurst firm

In a region where very new job counts, an expansion announced on Monday for a Bathurst company was very welcome news.
Rogers Electric Motor Service will increase its production and create six jobs, thanks to $125,000 from the Government of New Brunswick's Restigouche-Chaleur Economic Development Fund. The money, announced by Finance Minister Victor Boudreau, will be used to purchase new equipment and expand the facility to accommodate projected increase work volume.
"Partnering with a company like Roger's Electric Motor Service demonstrates our government's commitment to economic development in Bathurst and New Brunswick," said Mr. Boudreau, the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. "We are putting New Brunswick on the road to self-sufficiency by investing in the Chaleur region and helping it to create more employment in all regions."
Bathurst MLA Brian Kenny, who couldn't attend Monday's announcement due to family reasons, said the expansion is an example of how local entrepreneurs and the government can work in hand in hand to turn the region's economy around.
"It goes to show that with vision, determination and a lot of hard work, one's dreams can come to reality right here in Bathurst," said the Liberal Member of the Legislative Assembly in a news release. "Companies like (Rogers Electric Motor Service) set a fine example how we can diversify our economy and find new markets within and outside our great province."
He noted he visited the facilities a weeks back and "quite impressed by the technology process and the dedication and skills of (the) staff."
Todd Morrisson, of Roger's Electric Motor Services, indicated the company was glad to have the province on side to help make the expansion happen.
"It is programs like the economic development fund that will help sustain and grow small business on the north shore," he said. "The economic landscape in this region is changing rapidly, and companies need to change with it in order to survive."
Serving a diversified customer base, Rogers Electric Motor Service repairs AC and DC electric motors, industrial pumps, gear reducers, vacuum pumps, and generators for various industries, including food processing, health care, mining, smelting and forestry.
Rogers is also equipped to perform dynamic balancing, laser alignment, vibration analysis, machining and on-site diagnostic and repair work.
The Government of New Brunswick's $30-million Restigouche-Chaleur Economic Development Fund supports projects focusing on diversification, infrastructure, research and development, and training and education.
The fund expires on April 30, 2009.
