Peace officers with the Department of Justice and Public Safety conducted the traffic stop in Bathurst April 25, according to a news release issued by the province.

The traffic stop was conducted with the help of the Bathurst Police Force, who arrested a 60-year-old man from Summerside.

He was later released and is scheduled to appear in Bathurst court in July, where the province says he’s expected to face charges under the Tobacco Tax Act and Section 121.1 of the criminal code, which prohibits the sale, transportation, delivery, distribution and possession of tobacco product and raw leaf tobacco that’s not packaged, unless it is stamped.

“Residents are encouraged to report the trafficking of contraband tobacco, cannabis or any other criminal matters, to law enforcement,” the province said in the release.
