Campbellton has set aside $3,500 to use toward a memorial at Sugarloaf Park to recognize the Ramsay Sisters, who died after falling from the top of the mountain.

In November 1924, Dorvil and Lottie Ramsay had climbed Sugarloaf Mountain and fell to their deaths.

Since then, two crosses have been painted on the face of the mountain and by year’s end, reader boards and benches could soon be in place to mark their demise.

Tide Head Beach sees early opening

Campbellton announced on April 18 that Tide Head Beach has opened for the summer, almost almost a month earlier than had been expected thanks to the lack of snow.

Users are reminded to make sure to clean up after themselves and to abide by rules posted at the entrance.

Family Day event coming up

Restigouche Family Services is organizing an event next month to celebrate International Day of Families.

RFS will host activities from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on May 15 at its offices in Atholville at 1 Savoie Ave. near the Superstore.

The family affair is free to everyone with activities and refreshments to be served.

Four cards left in chase the ace

There are just four cards remaining in the Dalhousie legion’s chase-the-ace fundraiser, with this week’s jackpot expected to be over $100,000, with the consolation prize likely over $10,000.

The weekly draw is held every Saturday at the legion with tickets available at the same location Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and again on Saturday right up until 6:30 p.m.

The draw will take place at 8 p.m.

Market planned

Volunteers with the Glen Levit Community Centre are planning a spring market.

The market takes place at the Glen Levit fire hall on May 4 starting at 8 a.m. Besides homemade goods and food, there will also be a yard sale.

Kiosks up for grabs

Some of the kiosks on the Campbellton waterfront are up for grabs with a deadline of May 5 for applicants.

Symphony to play May 13

Symphony New Brunswick in Dalhousie is expecting a sellout crowd on May 13.

The concert will be one of the last of the season organized by Jeunesses Musicales Canada Present.

The concert will take place at the LER Theater at the cost of $20, with students under 18 admitted free.

Soccer registration now open

The Restigouche United Soccer Club is now accepting registrations for the upcoming soccer season.

Players in all age groups U11 to U18 must be registered before the season begins with the deadline set for April 30.

New truck on order

A new truck has been ordered to replace one that burned last fall at the city garage.

Campbellton council voted to spend $199,000 on a new five-ton truck from Central Garage and an additional $190,000 on equipment to be supplied by JP Equipment Restoration Inc. of Heron Bay.

The truck, a 2006 International, caught fire on Oct. 24 and was insured.
