(Editor's Note: Featured this week is Graham Wiseman, a city councillor for Bathurst. Mr. Wiseman has been on council for five terms. )
Q: Country or rock and roll?
I like either one but I prefer rock and roll. I don't turn the radio off it's it's country because it all depends who the singer is. Like Shania Twain, I can listen to her all day. I have satellite radio here in my truck and I usually listen to the golden oldies, 60's, 70's and 80's. I'm not trying to grow up, I'm still trying to stay young.
Q: Favourite food?
I do love stews, I love moose meat, I love salmon and I love apple dumplings.
Q: What is your pet peeve?
Slow drivers. I'm making my living on the highway and the thing is I get people in front of me like Sunday drivers, they're gawking and looking all over the place. Then you get behind tractor trailers. You wait for them to go and when you pull out to pass, they decide to pull out at the same time.
Q: Favourite hobbies?
Hunting, I guess. I get the adrenaline flowing when the moose season comes. You apply for your moose licence back in May and wait until July until the lisence comes out and if you're successful, the adrenaline really gets going leading up to the moose hunt. After that, it's basically being in the woods, enjoying nature...especially this time of year, with the leaves and everything.
Q: Favourite movie?
I'm not a movie goer but the movie that I really did enjoy was Gladiator (starring Russell Crowe)...I saw it in Halifax when I was there for the (Canadian Hockey League's) Memorial Cup. I went out to the theatre that night and that was the movie that was playing.
Q: Favourite holiday?
Christmas. It's the winter time and when you're younger you have your children and seeing them opening their gifts. All our family gets together for Christmas dinner over at my parents' place and then we have in the evening a stocking situation where everyone buys a gift, not an expensive gift but sort of a joke.
Q: Favourite way to spend vacation?
I haven't had a vacation for a long time but what I did enjoy was just sitting back, putting your feet up. Relaxing, I guess, and having good weather.
Q: Who do you admire?
I like a person that loves a challenge, I like a person that is willing to take charge and I like a person that stands behind their decision...I would have to say...(former U.S. president) John F. Kennedy and (former Canadian prime minister) Pierre Trudeau.
Q: Best advice you've ever received?
The best advice I ever received was from my mother. She told me to slow down and enjoy life and take it easy.
Q: Best thing about living in the Chaleur region?
The best thing about living in this area is the people, the country side, the beauty. The people are very friendly, they don't mind helping each other out in time of need or even when you're down and out, there's always somebody that notices the change in your attitude...Any time of the year we've got four seasons here. We can hunt, we can fish, we can Ski-doo, we can go to the beach, we can enjoy the change in the fall. Everything a person wants, as far as I'm concerned, is right here.
