To The Editor:

Many supermarket chains are coming out with policies to phase out the use of plastic bags for customers.

In my opinion, their main concern is cost. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent on grocery bags each year. Are those savings going to be passed over to the consumer? I guess not .

They also have shelves packed with different sizes of bags which they are going to make a profit on.

Most people have different uses for used grocery bags. If they don’t get them there, they’ll have to be bought elsewhere, so there will still be as many bags going to waste. So where is the logic? It’s like everything else: money talks.
