To The Editor:

When we see the Liberals doing tax reform, this is like putting the fox in the chicken coop.

New Brunswick’s Finance Minister comes out and says the poor and seniors would be looked after. This sounds good, but what about the people just over the so-called poor boundary line of $23,500 per couple? A civil servant called the $25,000 to $39,000 couples the poor rich.Too rich to get all the handouts, like free Blue Cross, fuel and income supplements.

Of course, one favours all this help to the lower income group, but what about the people just a few dollars above this $23,500 line? No wonder a civil servant call us the poor rich. Not rich enough to live easy, but we get no help every time the government wants more money for new projects.

The families and seniors just above the so-called poor line need help as well.

My question is, what is the Liberal government going to do to ease our already high taxes? From what I see, this new tax reform (or really a tax grab against the lower classes) will not cut it.

We have seen the federal government lower taxes to get the economy going, but now the provincial government is taking those tax benefits away and raising taxes further.

This is not good news for seniors and lower middle class families in New Brunswick.
