To The Editor:

I am writing to your newspaper regarding a new sign that has been erected by the City of Bathurst on Vanier Boulevard, just coming off the Highway 11.

It mentions it is now strictly prohibited for commercial vehicles under a Bathurst bylaw to use engine brakes within the city limits.

When I first saw the sign, I couldn’t help but laugh.

There is no doubt that commercial vehicles can create quite a bit of noise using their engine brakes and I sympathize with the citizens living on Vanier Boulevard.

However, I think taxpayers’ money would be put to better use if there was some enforcement done regarding the several motorcyles riding within the city limits with straight pipes, sports cars with loud muflers and so on.
