Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation paints Bathurst pink
Published Tuesday August 5th, 2008

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation was hoping to paint the country pink to encourage participation in this year's Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure. Paint Canada Pink Week was held July 28 through August 3 with activities led by volunteers across the country to raise awareness for the 2008 Run.
"Paint Canada Pink Week is an opportunity for communities across the country to connect in a creative and positive way to support the breast cancer cause and encourage friends, families and co-workers to participate on October 5th for the Run" said Alison J. Youngman, National Board Chair. "The Foundation and many Run sites have teamed up with local businesses coast-to-coast to make this year's Paint Canada Pink Week even greater with new events in more locations."
In Bathurst, Mayor Stephen Brunet helped raise the 'Run for the Cure' flag at City Hall on July 29 with Bathurst co-run directors, Silvana Bosca and Paula Boudreau, a local breast cancer survivor.
This year's Run takes place in 55 communities. On the big day on Oct. 5, activities kick off in Bathurst at 1:30 at Coronation Park. Bathurst is one of four sites in New Brunswick and is the only site in northern N.B. Last year, approximately 500 participants walked or ran the 1 kilometer or 5 km route and raised over $30,000.
The annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is the largest single-day fundraising event in Canada dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer. Last year the Run raised over $27 million to fund innovative and relevant breast cancer research, education and awareness programs.
As the leading national volunteer-based organization dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation works collaboratively to fund, support and advocate for relevant and innovative breast cancer research, meaningful education and awareness programs, early diagnosis and effective treatment, and a positive quality of life for those living with breast cancer. Founded in 1986, the Foundation has regional offices in BC/Yukon, Prairies/NWT, Ontario and the Atlantic provinces as well as a central office in Toronto.
