Art society member's Christmas treat

C1

In the kitchen this week is Pamela St. Pierre, a member of the Bathurst Art Society. She and her husband, Patrick, who is originally from this area, moved here from Kingston, Ont. in August 2007 to retire.

She started painting in Kingston with the Kingston School of Art and continues to take art classes here. She enjoys watercolour and acrylics. Pamela would like to invite everyone to the final Christmas Art Sale being held Dec. 2 to 6, (from 10 a.m. til 4 p.m.) at the Bay Breeze Art Gallery, located in the Waterfront Village.

Please drop in and see the great selection of Christmas gift ideas which includes small paintings, Christmas balls and ornaments (hand painted by local artists), and some great stocking stuffers.

Pamela also invites you to drop in at the Bay Breeze Gallery to register for one of the many art classes being scheduled for the New Year. For information, phon: 546-6937.

The recipe Pamela wishes to share with you today is for a special Christmas treat of spiced nuts, which makes a great hostess gift).

Spiced Nuts

INGREDIENTS

1 ½ cup white sugar

¾ tsp. salt

2 tsp. cinnamon

2 tsp. ginger

1 tsp cloves

1 tsp. allspice

2 egg whites

1 lb. raw, blanched, unsalted cashews and almonds

DIRECTIONS

Mix sugar and spices together. Beat egg whites until frothy. Dip nuts (in small batches) in egg whites (Pamela uses a sieve) and then drop in sugar mixture to coat. Spread on baking sheet and bake for 2 ½ hrs. at 200 degrees.

In The Kitchen is a great place to promote a non-profit group or event, or just to introduce yourself to the community. We are now taking bookings for January so give us a call at 546-0558.
