Foresight made Gowan Brae what it has become today

First, a very modern note to club members with e-mail addresses: Please send an e-mail to golfing@ gowanbraegolf.ca to enable the club to update the mailing list.
Looking back to 1958, as we have done, is fun - particularly for those of us with numerous years to look back on! More immediately, this year we are celebrating 50 years of golf at Gowan Brae with a number of functions and events. As an example, we have on offer $20 tickets in a draw for six one-year free memberships and six $100 gift certificates. This is a cause you should support; you could get a year of free golf!
No organization can live on its past: had the executive of Gowan Brae not realized this years ago, we would be sitting on a fairly mundane course in a superb setting. As we stand today, however, we have the benefit of constant and carefully planned development of both the course itself and the facilities that go with it. In their wisdom, the executive engaged a golf course architect company to draw up a master plan for developing the course. This has been followed with support from the federal and provincial governments, but it should be noted that all work at the club has provided work and income for local employees, contractors and tradesmen.
The sound design of the clubhouse by local architect Jim Gavin (a Scot, no less!) has also allowed the executive to continually develop this facility to the point where it is one of the most functional clubhouses on the east coast.
The floor space, amenities, banquet and kitchen facilities provide the infrastructure that has enabled Bathurst to demonstrate the capacity of the North Shore to provide warm, friendly, and efficient volunteer services and facilities to provincial and national events such as the Provincial Ladies Two Ball, to be held June 8, the Atlantic Future Links Juniors slated for July 21 to 24; and the N.B. Senior Men's Provincial Championship, Aug. 5 to 8.
See you on the tee!
