From the Green

The season may be winding down at the Squire Green Golf Course but there are still two more tournaments on the schedule.
The Royal Bank charity golf tournament for the Chaleur Regional Hospital is set for Sept. 19 with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. A roast beef dinner is on the menu following nine holes of golf. For more information, call 547-1048.
The other big event this month is the Squire Green Open on Sept. 27. The 18-hole scramble tees off at 12 noon with a roast beef dinner and prizes on the terrace following play. The sign-up sheet, along with more information, is available in the clubhouse.
With only four weeks of play left, the Men's Night standings remain tight. Kinecor continues to hold down top spot, with 85 points; but City Centre are hot on their heels in second place with 84. Stothart Toyota and Chaleur Building Supplies are tied for third, with 83 points apiece; followed by Dave Kenny with 80; the Pizza Shack Boys and Team Hole In One with 83 points each; Team Russell Berchevaise, 69; and the Fun Bunch and Xstrata Zinc, who have 63 points each.
A reminder to golfers that Men's Night, which is held every Tuesday evening, will tee off this week at 5:30 p.m. Teams are also asked to play best ball, where necessary, to speed up the pace of play to allow everyone to play nine holes before darkness sets in. This week's Men's Night meal will be put on by the Big D Drive In with prizes sponsored by the Captain's Cabin and the Fashion Deck.
Ladies Night also continues this week, with golfers hitting the links Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m. This week's sponsor is Coca-Cola.
Grace Lee Kenny is the course manager at the Squire Green Golf Course.
