Published Tuesday July 15th, 2008

In the spirit of creating new community traditions, the Miramichi Exhibition, which opens Wednesday and runs through Sunday, has some modern updates alongside the familiar midway rides and agricultural competitions.
This year's fair will also host Lansomnia 2008, a recreational and competitive video game tournament. The result of a partnership between the Miramichi Agricultural Exhibition Association and Lansomnia, this milestone event expects to draw more than 250 competitive gamers from across the Maritimes competing for more than $10,000 in cash and prizes. All event proceeds will be donated to IWK Health Centre in Halifax.
The fun will include a battle of the bands contest with the hit video game, Rock Band, tournament action on the big screen with play-by-play and an opportunity for gamers see how they stack up against the country's best. Also, fairgoers can "pay as you play" on a variety of games and platforms
Old favourites at the Exhibition include more than 30 midway attractions, the 4-H Club agriculture competition and the petting zoo.
Admission to the Miramichi Exhibition is free; unlimited-ride bracelets can be purchased in advance for $22.
