Local student, Alexandre Anderson, who will be attending Mount Allison University this fall, is one of this year's recipients of an endowment fund established to assist Canadians in their pursuit of education.

The Kinette Club of Miramichi is pleased to award Anderson with a $1,000 bursary from Kin Canada Bursaries, a program of the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund. This fund was established in memory of Kin Canada's founder, Hal Rogers.

Anderson is one of 52 recipients from across Canada to receive the bursary. She will be studying science.

"This year, the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund is proud to present 52 bursaries to students across Canada. In 14 years of existence, Kin Canada Bursaries have supported students in their quest for post-secondary education by providing more than $600,000 in bursary funds," said Cynthia Cooper, chair of the HREF Board of Trustees.

"Kinsmen and Kinettes are proud to be making a difference in the lives of students throughout Canada."

Supported by Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin Clubs across the country, Kin Canada Bursaries are annually awarded to successful Canadians who are pursuing post-secondary education. This year, more than 1,200 applications to the bursary program were received from students across the country. Successful applicants are chosen based on their community and school involvement, knowledge of Kin Canada, and financial need.

Kin Canada is the national association of Kinsmen, Kinette, and Kin clubs. In hundreds of communities across Canada, thousands of dedicated volunteers make up this dynamic, all-Canadian service organization. Through their promotion of service, fellowship, positive values and national pride, Kinsmen and Kinettes work tirelessly to make their communities and their country a better place to live.
